Chen Shitong was born. 1985, Singapore
Shitong is an artist, a father, a teacher and a collaborative printer. Trained as a painter and printmaker, Shitong's own art practice explores the idea and physicality of spaces between people, especially public empty spaces, and are mainly of collagraphic prints and paintings
Shitong’s recent exhibitions include The Story of Two Presses in AC43 Gallery, Intersections at Esplanade, Jendela (Visual Arts Space), Moving Plates at Mulan Gallery, Singapore, Bon 'A Tirer at AC43 Gallery, Shop Mix at Tamarind Institute Gallery, Albuquerque, USA, Locals Only, Taksu Singapore, This is Utopia at LWH Gallery Shanghai, Phrase, Rephrase at Galerie Steph and he had his first solo exhibition On Common Ground at Mulan Gallery in 2017.
Trained in Lithography from Tamarind Institute of the University of New Mexico, US, Shitong was inspired by the professional fine art collaborative printing practises, to initiate a similar set up in Singapore in 2018 in the name of Pulp Editions, so as to work with different fine artists in the region.
He graduated with a Fine Art diploma from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in 2003 and Lasalle x Goldsmiths College with a Bachelor of Fine art in 2013. He is also currently teaching at these institutions as well as in School of the Arts (SOTA). As an art educator, Shitong is particularly interested in opportunities to share more about printmaking.
